6-30-09 Anticipation is up, Test is Done Italy here I come

Full mustache intact. So today was filled with much excitement knowing that I would not have class tomorrow and that I would be in Italy and I am pretty positive that the rest of the ship felt like that as well. Tomorrow I will be heading to Rome at 9am and seeing the amazingness of Rome and then I just found out that I am going to be staying in a Hostile with 4 of my close friends in my sustainable communities class. I am soo excited I can now cross stayin in a hostile off the list of things before I die. WOO HOOO. Do the Moo Shoo ahhaha. Ok so after class today I went and I got my bathing suit and went swimming and my friend Zach was up there and like we were like splashing everyone and I was doing Can Openers and just getting everyone splashed ohhh gosh it was great and I was like you gotta get wet your in the SPLASH ZONE. And my friend just now right across the way was singing Jack Johnson and totally joined in it was fantastic. But yeah anyway today is awesome. I love getting emails from ABBSTER. And apparently I was wrong it was not Bob Barker who died it was the guy who did American Bandstand. But still that is a bummer. Yeah my mustache is in full force and ready for Italy, everyone on the ship loves it and it has become a pretty funny thing when people ask if it is real (cause they saw my fake one) I simply say just touch it. Harry Potter the Goblet of Fire was on and just totally fell asleep after spending some time in the sun and yeah it was pretty cool. Had a weird Harry Potter dream where me and Harry were playing Quiddidge or however you spell that one and then I got this awesome goal and Harry gave me a Wizard Five. Also we are going to play cards in a little bit with the group I am staying in the Hostel with. Hopefully it is nothing like the movie Hostel. Snack time tonight was awesome when I was hanging with my friend Ryan whose mom teaches the Sexual Education class on the ship, he got us the good snacks tongiht. Like the guy saw Ryan and brought out a whole new platter of deserts at snack time. Everyone loves snack time. But yeah I am missing everyone and I hope your all having a wonderful time and I love you all and yeah I will talk to yall later.

6-29-09 Are we In Italy Yet?????

Cause I was just wondering, but in fact we are not we still have about 500 Nautical Miles till we reach the great country of Italy. I am currently writing this blog half way in my room half way in the hall, I saw this girl with ingenious invention of using the closet door to prop open the room door and since there I have been using this great ideal. Although it does hurt the elbows and I am fairly positive that I damaged my elbow yesterday because it hurts when I rest it on something. Also just thought I would let everyone know that I submitted my first paper for Global Studies. Now I should really get to studying for the BIG test tomorrow, I will possibly take it in the confinements of my room cause we can take the test wherever we would like. And tonight there is a bible study thing at around 7pm which I might attend if I am not too in depth with my studies. Got another awesome email from the ABBSTER, it made my day. Hmm not really that much to talk of today due to everyone getting ready to take the test, however I did eat lunch today with one of the girls in our hall from Nebraska and apparently it gets up to 100 degrees during the months of summer and I had no idea that it got that hot there. I guess it reverts back to the saying, you learn something new everyday. Also some senate lady from California is on board, am not quite sure of her name but she seemed pretty cool. So I have a name now for my growing mustache, it is now called the Stache Attack sort of like the Shaq Attack, but only this time with more hair in your face action and superiority to the depths of humanity. In our advertising class we saw the funniest advertisement ever, it is from I believe Burger King and it is called I think the Super 7 Incher, ohh my goodness it is hysterical, and if you can put together the idea of having meat and the words super 7 incher you might be able to catch the drift. But yeah I will get back to yall later, now I actually am going to attempt to study. It is now 12:32am and I am finished with my paper and I am also ready to take the test tomorrow wish me luck. ttyl bye

6-28-09 Been Working all Day

Well at least that is what it fills like, when in fact I took a 2 hour ciesta, and I believe that is correct spelling let me know if that was wrong Candice. Well I am almost finished with my first Global Studies paper and I think it is turning out pretty great, who knows though I may be getting ahead of myself. On another note that paper will be down and then I will not have to worry about it and can focus on the test on wens. which is pretty cool and will challenge the minds of many on the ship. Today we past the Rock of Gilbraltor, I don't think the spelling is entirely correct but it works for me. And also watched one of the most breath taking sunsets right over some mountains in what I believed to of have been Africa, however; with my geography skills it could have been Spain. So as I may have noted in the previous post we are on our journey to Italy. I am sitting in the hall where my room sits which is starboard side, and its 1am and some girl just walked by and asked if we could keep it down apparently we were being a little noisy. I am glad that my family is having a great time in Hawaii I will have to see some awesome pictures and stuff when I get back. So now I have the decision of growing my mustache just till Italy or till the end of this epically awesome journey. Tonight I still have to finish my journal entry for my advertising class. Already I am missing Spain, not so much Barcelona cause I dont know how I felt about being approached by hookers every night and getting unwantingly fondled by Transvestights. Adversely I am happy that I do not have to pay for water and that I am happy for, I can finally hydrate my internal system a little bit. I am so going to be up till 2 am this morning I just know it. Beds these days are just not as comfortable as they were the first day I was here. Man oh Man what I would give to have my bed from home shipped to the ship and put into my room. I think I forgot to mention that our apartment in Barcelona had the worlds smallest bathroom, like I could possibly have reached out from the 4in by 4in shower and flush the toilet with my elbow. Anyway back to homework time.

6-28-09 What a long day

So today was  aday back in class. It was really long and I have a lot of work/ reading/ writing of a paper, and I am stresssing out. Sometimes it seems like soo much but then I look deep down inside and I know that it will be all worth it in the end and what an amazing experience and opportunity this is. Also I am getting a lot of compliments on the stache, people say that it is growing in nice and I think I will have a nice natural stache to fit in with the Italian Culture. Currently I am delaying work for night time, I think more clearly then, and I am waiting until we have a voyage book meeting. Today was a little depressing to be back in class, and was hard to focus clearly, and eatting woah what a whole nother story that one was, lets just say it was nothing compared to Spanish Cusiene. I think that is how you spell that word. It also feels that everyone has their own little niche's of friends and they only hangout with that group. In some ways I am a floater and just kind of do not associate myself with any one person but more or less try and hangout with everyone. I am missing home and the wonders of a Fili B's Carne Asada Burro and some fresh Horchatta, yummmy!!!!!!! Abby I am listening to that CD that you made me and it is wonderful I really enjoy it soo much you have great taste. Finally got an email from Candice too and wish me and JR were there to enjoy Hawaii with her. But yeah I have a bunch of reading to do and should prolly get on top of that reading. So to y'all I bid you a farewell and will post some new stuff later.

Love yours truly,

6-27-09 Heading for Italy and noteing my observations from Espalia (Ithink thats Spain)

I can hear the engine underneath the boat reving up, there are a lot of people out back ready for the ship to dis-embark. But me, I am here in the computing commons writing on all of my observations from a very diverse experience. Spain was amazing and also had its little crevaces thats you didn't wish to hear about. We leaned some Spainsh and we learned how to use the Metro Station in Spain. Las Rambles, the main drag in Barcelona is a very crowded, highly trafficed, and full of shops and street performers during the day; but once it turns into night a whole new world emerges, full of prostitutes, transvestites, people selling drugs, and you have to watch your bags and sutff as you walk down. The 3 Barcelona Card  was the best investment that we made, and not only could you use it at the Metro Stations but you could also use it at a lot of different locations to recieve discount on admission and that sort of thing. One thing I wish I would have brought was baby powder cause on the second day after walking and walking and walking lets just say that some things can go raw and once it is night time you cannot find a CVS or something like that. When traveling with a group, do not split up from each other I repeat do not split up unless you have 2 sets of keys or perhaps have made prior arangements to do seperate things. Also it is essential that you experience the Ice Bar, not only do you get to wear amazing jackets and go in sub-zero temperatures but you get a free drink and you can eat your cup once your finished. One thing I disliked about Spain, is that  it was an enviormentally friendly culture besides the fact where the only way you could obtain water was by purchasing a bottle of it, and there is no free water once you get to dinner or lunch. We were a little loud the last night too, not me in particular but other people that I was with and I believe that was disrespectful to their way of life and I would prolly have changed that, cause I just think it was prolly disrespectful. I observed Spain had an abudance of agriculture land devoted to crops and surprisingly acres upon acres of sunflowers and then there were neighborhoods in highly density areas, where mixed use development also played a part in making Spain really cool. Mixed use is having a building where you have shops on the bottom and then living arangements on top of those. I just heard the boats horn and it looks like we are now leaving. Antoni Gaudi's buildings in Spain were breathtaking and would of loved to spent just a day at the park which he constructed on top of a hill with an amazing view of Barcelona. The park was just the most wonderful experience where I met this older lady from Los Angelas and had a 15 minute conversation with her, but at this park there were people playing music and selling jewlery and others just sitting on the grass and just observiong the glorious view of Barcelona. Also I found that Barcelona was a Megatropolis, there was just sooo many people and then mor people, almost everywhere you went just astounded me. I did find a lot of people very very helpful though when looking for something or trying to make someone understand something from your point and most would take their time with you, something that is rare to find even with Americans to Americans. I think that is one of our downfalls as a Global Leader, I mean what example are we really setting for everyone, and how arrogant can we get as to not even willing to spend 5 mintues trying to help someone who looks lost. I mean I am a hypocrit in my own writing but it has really given me a new perspective on things and I will now be more patient with people who do not speak my language or even those who do and are looking for something, cause other people around the world really have no problem helping you out.  Also now I can see how people do not always like them, because in some senses we do not even try to come closer to being a better global citizen, we don't live in a box, we live in a sphere where everyone is a part of. In Spain they also eat at different times of the day and focus on quality not quantity. All that I am saying is we could learn a thing or 2 from how these other nations really do things. That is all for now I am hungry and going to go eat. And Abby listened to your CD again it was fantastico, and really thought of you a lot and your flippin awesome =O

6-26-09 Part 2 Barcelona Spain, Another day of sights to see

So today was full of adventure and walking and taking the metro which I think we have mastered by now. The day started with waking up at 9:30 am after staying up till 4 am with everyone last night, needless to say it was an early morning. That is when I wrote the first post. But yeah so anyway what is going on with everyone at home? I took a lot of new pictures, and saw some of Antoni Gaudi's work which was simply amazing. We had a great drink at lunch today it was a San Gria. But yeah we walked and walked to the metro, transfered to another metro, and then Bam saw the Sagrada Famila. Which was the most amazing expierence of my life and we had lunch right across the street from it. From there we went back on the metro and then started on our trek to find the Park GΓΌell, we found Chase, Mirah, and Kelsey all of which are ASU kids as well. Then Nicole found her Barcelonian friend and he took us up to the Park which was fantastically amazing. I grabbed some gelato in this amazingly big cone. It was splendid seriously tasted deliciouso (Dora the Explorer). I really love taking pictures here and then walking around and around. Then we split up group and Dan and I ended up together trying to find other people from semester at sea guys Chase and Austin, which took us sooo long but we ended up talking to a guy from a taxi, a lamp guy, and a police officer, and a guy on a motorcycle; but eventually we found them and yeah so now we are sitting here just hanging out getting ready for dinner. I miss ABBasaraus.........
=) But yeah ohhh and I got to talk to Mom yesterday and Dad today and it was fantastic and I really enjoyed talking with them. But yeah I can actually sort of understand a little bit of spanish now maybe cause that is the only language ive heard for the last 3 days. Ohh and apparently Michael Jackson died and so did Pharah Faccet, how crazy is that??? I had no idea till this morning.

6-26-09 Watch out for those Transgender girls, Cause they're MEN

Ok SO I appologize for not not writing in here the other day but litterally it has been crazy here, we have taken every form of transportation possible of Spain. Rail, Subway, Airplane, Bike, and by foot.  I loved Cadiz, it was such a little cool town, the architecture style was so traditional and the houses were the houses you picture in an European street. I took a  lot of pictures here and ate the best Churro of my life (Churro Dipped in fresh Chocolate). But we were only there for a day then we had to go to the train station and get a rail ticket to Sevilla, which let me tell you that train was super clean and smelt great, it wasn't dirty or anything like that. On the train my group which consisted of Dan, Dan, Nicole, Katie and Jess and there was also another group which was the other Cameron his girlfriend Danni, Kevin and his girlfriend. So we sat with them and certain people got to play card not me though cause the rows are divided all weird. BUt yeah soo anyway it was was a good ride then getting in Seville we decided to walk with Cameron and his group to their Hostel and then we would catch a cab, well Cameron was having a hard time finding his hostel and we decided to part ways. It was great trying to find our way into our hotel room which was located in an Olympic Stadium that was converted into a hotel. My group decides that half would get in one cab and then me Dan and Katie would grab the next one because the other Dan in our group was kinda complaining. Needless to say everyone did not like that. Anyway, so me Dan and Katie decide to just walk thinking it isnt that far. Well on the way we bump into a girl who speaks a bit of English cause almost no one did speak it. She tells us that its another 1 hour walk and we just try not beliving this and keep walking. ON our walk we see this crazy I dont know waht you call it but like a demonstration with lots of people marching and speaking loud so that people can hear them. Well so we finally find a street and turn right onto it and then proceed down this street, well we walk for about another 15minutes and then we see this amazing amzing invention. It is a center where you can rent bike, the first 30 minutes is free and after that from 31-60 minutes it is 1 Euro , How great is that. Well anyway we have a hard time trying to figure this machine out and get some of the locals to help us out. We finally get the bikes out and by that time it has already been about 20 minutes, but we finally got them and we are soo excited. We ride trying to find the hotel thinking it will stick out like a sore thumb. Which it did but it didn't if that makes any sense. Well we are riding these bikes all over town and talking to the locals riding over bridges and through tunnels. It was pretty crazy, and on the way I saw the most beautiful sunset. It was breath taking. We finally find the Hotel which was pretty cool and then decide to go out for dinner at around 12pm which is sorta customary for Spainrds. We  take a cab to try and meet up with Cam and his crew but the cab driver took us to Toro Del something and we needed to go to the Plaza de Toro, so we end up not meeting them and just going to dinner and eatting some really good pizza and going to a bar down by this river. Where we met I think his name was Jordan, and he was on leave from the National Guard. We talk with him for about 2 hours and get in our hotel about 3am. In the morning we are going to the airport, We take a little flight into Barcelona. IN barcelona we all get our public tans pass. We take a bus to a train station and we get on a subway to our apartment, which is a good distance. We finally get to our apartment which is off of Las Rambles and some other street, and we just walk in this tiny little opening of a door to get up the stairs. Our apartment is on the 3rd story and it iis pretty decent. We get everything squared away with the landlord and go have dinner in this amazing complex. Then we all get ready cause everyone wanted to go out and go to the Ice Bar which is down by the beach. So we had to take a subway and then change and get onto another one and then walk to the beach. SO we finally find this Ice Bar which is actually kinda cool. It cost 10 Euro and we get in the ice bar and one drink. It was pretty cool. Anyway I have got to get going but I will sum up the rest of the night in a few little sentances. We left, people wanted to go to another club which was 18 Euro COVER, Jess was saying hey to everyone, made it back to Las rambles on the Metro, got offered drugs by 3 different people, got paraded by a group of tranvestights that Dan thought were females (Which they deff were not), got offered a blowjob by some hookers, saw people getting mugged, made it home safe, went back out with Dan at 4am to get some water cause therer tap isnt that great, and then went to bed. Ohh the Stache is comin in nice too. OUt to explore

Hope you enjoyed reading. Ohh and everyone when in port and away from the boat I cannot check my email, so just facebook message me if you need me.

6-24-09 Cadiz Spain and waiting for Seville

Waiting to go to Seville tonight, just got back from adventuring in the town of Cadiz, Spain and let me just say amazingness. It was really just spectacular, tried talking with the locals, ate in the middle of this like little marketplace setting. Had these amazing churro things and just wow it is super cool. Hung out with my friend Dan and Janae and we saw a bunch of fellow SASers, and we just were walking around the city which is nuts I have no idea how anyone get around on cars the streets are super narrow it only goes one way and parking is on both sides, it is very intriguing. But I am a very easily amuzed peron. Well anyway just a short snipet of information right now I am now going to go and rest and maybe do some homework, I have got 2 hours to kill then meeting up with the Gang to go to barcelona. Ohh yeah and the Mustache is coming in very good and I am thinking of doing the like handle bar kind. Well hope yah all have a fantastic day peace peace peace.

6-24-09 IN SPAIN

I am in Spain, how exciting is that? Well for me it is super exciting. I woke up this morning with this feeling inside the pit of my stomach, similar to that feeling that you get right on Christmas and you really wanna go downstairs and check on the presents, its that overjoying feeling, the feeling of anticipation, just everything bundled into one. I jumped outta bed woke up my roommate George, and Im like were here were here!!!! I grabbed my camera and darted out of the room quicly realizing I didnt have shoes (and it wasnt like the Dane Cook skit of car crashes where I just said f*** shoes), no I went back grabed them and ran outside up the stairs just to catch the sun right at sunrise. What an amazing experience, so excitied right now Cadiz, Spain is my location, later today it will be Seville, Spain and then tomorrow Barcelona, Spain ohh what a joy. And then you would not believe this but the boat following us in was the same exact cruise ship I was on last summer or at least I think it was myabe it wasnt. Maybe auntie can correct me if I am wrong but it was the Grand Princess, ohh yeah anyone feel free to email me at cprutherig@semesteratsea.net . Well I am offf gotta get dressed and brush my teeth and wow sooo excitied now Candice I know what you meann how Spain is beautiful =) and Abbster cant wait to hear from yah  miss you mom and dad and christian and nan and everyone. Wih you were here.

6-23-09 A day Left till Spain

So it currently is 3:58 and I have completed my first rendition of washing clothes in a sink, which was rather interesting and I actually enjoyed it, I wold pour about 5 garments in the sink fill the laundry detergent about 1/4 up and then proceed to wash my clothes with my hands. I had 2 loads of underwear and shirts it was actually really fun and then I hung all of the underwear on the clothes line and hung my shirts on the hangers that I brought with me. I sat out by the pool today I also went in the pool cause my friend Laura was like ohh come on Cameron it is not that cold and I just had to find out for myself. It was cold but after about 5-10 minutes I warmed up to it. But yeah it is another sunny day in the Atlantic Ocean, and we saw a whale on the 5th deck starboard side. I am really excited for Spain, apparently we are going to arrive at 6am. It still boggles my mind that I have not met everyone it is like there is always someone new, but I am getting closer and closer to my goal of giving everyone a high five. I really think it is impossible to turn someone down with a high five. Here is a little thing I am trying to grow a mustache by the time we get to Italy, that gives me 7 days, I think it can be done. I figure this will be my way of looking like a true Italian and I will be able to blend in with the Italians. Last night I printed out a calender finally of all the days we are at sea, when we are in class, and when we are in awesome places. I think when I get home I am going to just say hi to everyone on campus and give everyone high fives that has been the funnest thing and I feel it keeps everyone happy and they sorta know me as either the high five guy, the guy with the crazy mustaches, or Luigi. Really so far Semester at Sea has totally rocked my world in a good way and keeps everyone open and ready to meet new people. Later I have a Barcelona meeting at 19:30 and then a Voyage Book meeting at 20:30. Until that time I am going to be working on an essay and possibly some reading as well, until then Bon Voyage.

6-22-09 Bridge Tour Day

Today is Monday, woke up went to classes like usual. Today I was a little behind in my readings so I caught up on some reading material. Currently I am watching these two girls try and get a paper from a girl downstairs, the girl downstairs is like in a way trying to paper airplane it up the floor. Today was es beautiful, muh buene I dont know how to spell spanish words. But yeah so after classes, I went outside and layed out I think I got a little color, and there was a ton of people laying out. Soon aftyer the laying out I went back inside and attempted to read my advertising course stuff, but I needed some sleep to catch up on and so I did so. Bridge tour started at 4:30 and I couldnt be late, so I made sure to wake myself up from a deep sleep. We saw the bridge and it was pretty fun, those guys have the best view up there. Also today was school picture day, where us students from ASU sported our school colors, I wore my mustache, my ASU shirt, and of course no ASU picture is compltete without Sparky. But it was muh fun. Later after dinner which was not the greatest so far, and they finally have ranch for the salad but then they have no salad frickin suckkkks. But anywho had a wonderful dinner in the middle of the Atlantic with Cameron and Danni. Just got done playing a game of Phase 10 with Cameron, Danni, and Kevin and I won I only had 320 points and they alll had over 500 it rocjked. Anywho I gotta go gotta let this proffessor use the computer ttyl later

Part 2 6-21-09 I am a Dancing Maniac

So this is a later part of 6-21-09, so I was going through the halls and down the stairs of Deck 6 when I bumped into WILL BIll and Blythe and so I proceeded to talk to them, without being rude I slowly realized that I was missing my hall meeting which I had genuine interest in attending. I politely excused myself from the conversation and headed to deck three which my room is located (ROOM 3092). When travelign through the halls I soon realized that they had already started the meeting and I was missing valuable meet and greet time with people in MY SEA (the side of the deck and floor we are on), which is the Baltic Sea. I quickly rushed through the crowd of people sitting juxtapost to my room and entered and steathly changed into my disguise, which consisted of mt Ray Bans, My Fake Mustache, and My Volcom Hat. Spectacular disguise I know. Once I left my room everyone was still congrigated outside my room on down the hall, and lets just say that everyone loved my disguise, I am glad I tested it out for the Port of Spain. So anyway I got to know everyone in my fantastic disguise which everyone knew me anyway but hey gotta throw in a little fun and spice things up a bit. But yeah I was the loud one and when given the signal by OUR LLC ( living learning coordinator) I was to yell ROTATE at the tope of my vocal capacity, which I just soo happen to enjoy. WIth that constant yelling and my fantastically good charm and wonderful disguise I or as everyone called my disguise LUIGI, became the Captain of our sea and I get to pick a movie for the Baltic Sea's Movie night. Later I attended the dance which was entitled ROck The Boat, which was a splendid name, because I was rocking and rolling and dancing up a storm with still my ever lasting Luigi disguise, anyway to sum up the photographer said she got some awesome shots, everyone loved the mustache, and I enjoyed the night.

Well it is 1:42am and I have class at 8am so I will talk to you cats on the other side of the Atlantic at another point in time.

6-21-09 Gotta Catch Up On Reading for Sustainable Cities

Hello Everyone who is reading,

OK so today has been another day at sea, I haven't even been keeping track of how many days we have been at sea. But yeah I do know that we are getting to Spain in 2 days, which is awesome. Last night we crossed the point where in the Old World they would not pass because they thought that the world was flat, until Christopher Columbus dared to cross the tretches of the depths of unknown. Apparently they are part of Portugal but got some amazing pictures that I will upload when I get into port. Also we saw some dolphins and I spotted a group of whales. Also I loved the one Island because they had 2 lighthouses, and I made the comment to my friend Amy that they must have Wi-fi or something there and she goes yeah they must have made that technological jump from lgithhouses to wi-fi, ahhaha it was funny I swear. Also today at lunch me and this kid Ryan who I am sitting with as I write discussed how to solve getting our ecological footprint lower and what effects it will have. Ryan is from Cornell, he is a cool kid who is super smart deff smarter than kids at ASU. Also at dinner tonight I sat next to the student affairs head ladies Husband George who is super cool, and he used to be an OBGYN and so I proceeded to tell him that my mom works for an OBGYN and that I have spent a lot of time in that office, and earlier the other Cameron Paul had made the comment that he saw that I had come out of the closet on Rumor Ranger which is a little joke thingy we have on have on here to spread rummors and learn which are false and stuff. And I was like shut your mouth no you didnt, and then he proceeded to tell me that he was joking but anyway back to the story; Cameron said when I said I spent a lot of time at the OBGYN office, that he knew I might be a little confused, and then he laughed. Such a jokster. Anyway have been getting a lot of good emails from ABBSTER =) and that has been super cool but I still havent received any emails from family I am a little concerned about their whereabouts, maybe theyre already in Hawaii, I dont remember when they were leaving for Hawaii. On Semester at Sea, we are learning soo much, like today in global studies, we learned that we got our astrology system, and also 60 factors are better than 10 factors, and how like 360 is a good division tool and that we use the 365 day calender from this civilization.

6-20-09 The day we saw Dolphins

So today was another fantastic day at sea, we are in really calm water, and also we are passing 2 island today roughly in about an hour. Currently it is 7:13pm on the ship while back at home it is 12:13pm. During the day I met some more new friends it is like a never ending process I swear you cannot like meet everyone on the ship it is just too dang hard. I am in a group of 4 students and we are working on a group project, and we got our proposal done today woot woot. ALso we saw dolphins multiple times today, everyone was amazed at the dolphins. But yeah love getting emails from Abby =). Also did a ton of reading today and pretty much everyday. I have been reading much more than I do during the real school year, and I am in half the classes, but then again there really is not too much to do on the ship, besides hangout, read, go to sleep, watch movies, read, eat, shower. Ohh and I have this new goal of high fiving everyone boo yah. And desert was a little upsetting, it was this weird pudding with like fruit in it, needless to say I did not eat the weird fruit stuff. I hope everyone at home is doing awesome and I am going to have a lot of fun tonight you know studying and everything on a saturday ohh yeah and we have class on the weekends. =)

XOXOXOXXO Cameron P. Rutherig

6-19-09

This one is entitled a New Mission
6-18-09
Today is the first day of classes and I wake up at 7:56 and my first class is at 8, so needless to say I was stressed out of my mind knowing that I was late to my first class at semester at sea. I fervently ran into the bathroom brushed my teeth and put deodorant on and manage to find some clean clothes and boot scoot and boogied to class. I have to say that my Advertisement teacher is sooo awesome and seems super sweet, her name is Peggy and she wears glitter and her energy just always feels like it is at such a high level. Later everyone has to go to Global Studies and we learned about some terms like disclosure and some famous philosophers, such as the Amartya Sen guy. And litteraly ten minutes after that I have another class sustainable cities with Rocky. Currently I believe that I took all the right classes to fit my schedule. After my grueling 3 classes in a row it is Lunch time where I got to sit with several wonderful people and have some good discussions with Carol the Student Affairs lady, Molly a student in my sustainable cities course who is from Tenessee, and the Dean of Students who is very intelligent. I made a joke to him when I said all the people with the sea sickness bracelets on looked like Avril Lavinge fans I do not think he quite knew who she was. Then I had to go and get my key fixed because it was not working, bummer I know but they fixed it immediately. Ohh and the coolest thing, today I saw two dolphins, boo yah sea life is cool. Also we had our first meeting for the Voyage Book which I made it to be a photographer.

6-19-09
So today my roommate had bought an alarm clock which totally is awesome because I woke up late last night. But not today, today I woke up at 7:15, got a nice hot shower, shaved, and was looking pretty fresh. Anyway, 3 classes right after one another is pretty brutal and our Global Studies class is pretty interesting but is rather tough material. And lunch today consisted of pasta and bread and some other stuff, I have been eating rather healthy and I am rather impressed with myself; it usually consist of a salad, meat, and a pasta. What can I say I guess S@S makes you healthy. Today we had a group meeting for my advertisement class and I was a genius and got a good group and divided the readings up so then we all dont have to actually do every reading. Today was pretty stormy and we hit some rough waters and we weren't aloud outside. But now it is progressively getting calmer. We still have 5 days till we are in Cadiz, Spain. I am counting down the days plus then I wont have class, but this weekend we are going to have classes. Just sat in a lecture too of this girl who used to live in Barcelona and she gave some good tips and sights to see. But yeah I am sorry I dont have any crazy new stories but I am really trying to be a good academic child and stay on top of my readings and my classes, hope your all having a great day and I will ttyl.

6-17-09 Day UNO

From last night. But woke up at 6 am which is actually 1 am Arizona time, woke my roommate up for breakfest, only to find out it was actually 5am. Wow what a day we ran into some rough waters and if it was not or Katie I woulda been hating life, but luckily she gave me some sea-sickness pills. We spent a good deal of time in the U today, ohh and U is the Union, which sucks cause we were in rough waters and like it is at like foreward of the ship, that means front of the boat. But there were a ton of people who had a rough time. Found out that they will be playing Harry Potter and Slumdog Millionaire tonight and I am super stoked for that. Also with the medication I really felt like I was high or something because they make you super drowsy and they also make you really tired and slow down your reaction time. There was also a meeting on which clubs you could join and I applied for the book making club where we actually are going to produce an almost coffee like book for the rest of the S@S’ers Also I tried out the snack place on the Aft (the back) of the boat today and not only were the hot dogs splendid they were also the cheapest item on the menu priced at $1.50. Today was a bit boring maybe some more exciting things will happen tomorrow. And we also add an hour on to the clocks tonight because in the morning we will be on a new time zone.

6-16-09 Disembarkment

So today we set sail, a lot of news to write about, I got into my room it is beautiful, meet my roommate, was chilling out in the hall saying hello to everyone person who walked by, got a group of 15 kids to go get lunch, convienced all of them to buy a Britana water filtration system for the boat, played UNO, played Mafia, met some professors, met a kid who has a green and blue eye, met this girl Erica who was hysterical, toured the ship, almost feel asleep at our little speaker thingy, found out rumors travel fast on the ship/news, found out a secret that I can only describe as utter awesomeness, became tired, feel asleep. Love you all, and Abby I am going to listen to the second CD =)

6-15-09 (I Knew I forgot Something Important)

So last night I was running around we went to different taverns and I had some local Canadian Beer which was not too great but it was an experience. When I woke up this morning I knew that I had forgotten something and sure enough it was something important. Possibly one of the most essential items in order for you all to view my pictures from this amazing journey. Indeed I had forgotten that my laptop does not have the software for my camera and I did not install it before I left. Therefore I now have to truck around Canada trying to find a place that will sell me the software. Or if I cannot find the software I am going to have to buy a crappy little camera. Man I so bummed, I knew I would forget something really important. Well that is all for right now. I am bummed

** Good News I found a camera shop and Canadians are sooo amazingly nice well except for Asian ones but the camera people helped me out and now I can upload pictures, so now I am going to upload some new ones of my room.

FinaLLY the day of S@S 6/14/09

So today has been awesome been flying all day, and my flight to New Walk or whatever this place is called was extremely long and of course on the flight there was the infamous crying baby next to me, therefore I could not sleep, we went by a thunder storm, and I had a weird guy sitting next to me. Sounds like the typical flight right? To make it better once I got in the airport for the transfer over to a smaller gate, I saw a group of asian tourist all wearing the same hats it was this dorky red hat ohh man it was great made my day. Then we had to take this shuttle to Terminal A where I swear the shuttle bus smelt like sea world and it felt sorta like one of those miniture rides at Disneyland. So far my travels have been something straight out of a movie but it has been really fun. Hopefully my mom is doing a little better she started tearing up and so did my little brother it almost got me going but I am pretty good at keeping my composure. Before I left Abby made me these 2 cds and I started listening to one of the cd’s and it is awesome, seriously the coolest thing. Abby thank you I really appreciate them and I am gonna miss your face hahaha. Also the plane that we are going onto is this little rinky dink of a plane and I am uber excited to get on it cause I do not remember the last time I got to fly on a small plane. Ohh and before I forget and before I board there were these two amish guys and I swear Amish people just make my day, like they are ridiculously funny and if I could see one every day I would be a happy man anyway peace out Homie G’s. WOW what an awesome ride it was splendid got my own front seat talk to the stewardist nad that was a blast learned soo much about her and got her to welcome all the S@Sers on my flight, made a ton of friends on the ride over I was amazed by every single building and these people sitting on their porch and then I get to my room and I feel like IM at the ritz carlton man life is good right now. Well that is all for now gotta go out with everyone =)

Getting DOwn to the Wire

So I am choosing green cause it is my favorite color and I am writing on everything I am thinking before I leave. Currently I am down at my dads house in San Diego, I woke up at 7am. Prior to writing this wonderful entry I was reading up on the Voyagers Handbook provided by the Semester at Sea. Not only was the reading educational it helped me dream up some thoughts on what ship life would be like. Traditionally I would be very relaxed and super excited about a trip; but this trip is becoming more of a lifelong dream. Honestly I am begging to think that I am super super super duper lucky to be getting such an amazing experience. IN all sincerity I am a little nervous, 67 days at sea, away from family, tough classes, and of course no In and Out; that all can be very daunting. However, I understand that this is a super  unique opportunity and I have to remain calm and keep telling myself that I am going to make the absolute most of this whole thing. By far the packing list and making sure that I have absolutely everything that I could possibly need is paramount to this adventure and possibly the most stressful of all concerns. None the less there is precisely 11 days till I leave. Prior to that there is a few things I would like to accomplish while still at home; go to the river on Monday with some buddies, Bon Voyage party this Saturday, Hanging out with Friends (eatting Hamburgers, playing pool basketball, and watching a super cool Movie, And not to forget Sugarbowl), Hangout with MOM and get her all the copies of documents necessary, and of course run for mayor of a small city in Miami Arizona ahhahahha. Well I guess all that is left for this post is a subtle Bon Voayge to yall.
